Parts of northern Nebraska report up to 8 inches of snow

snowstormLINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Parts of northern and western Nebraska are seeing heavy snow in the season’s first storm.

The National Weather Service in Valley says parts of Knox County in northeast Nebraska had seen 6 to 8 inches of snow as of Friday morning.

Parts of western and central Nebraska saw snowfall totals of 6 inches. Snowfall was particularly heavy in Newport in Rock County and areas of Hooker County southwest of Mullen.

Ed Townsend, a weather service meteorologist in North Platte, says areas north of Valentine reported wind gusts of up to 43 mph, and Broken Bow experienced gusts of 49 mph. Overnight temperatures in northern Nebraska were expected to drop into the teens Friday night before rising into the mid-30s on Saturday.
