Chadron resident wins buffalo chip throw at Nebraska event

CHADRON, Neb. (AP) — A Chadron man has won the men’s 18-and-older title at the World Championship Buffalo Chip Throw contest in Chadron.

23-year-old Dylan Brant tossed a piece of dried bison dung 110 feet, 1 inch to win Saturday during the 41st annual Fur Trade Days celebration. His victory returns to men’s title to Chadron, having been lost last year to Kingi Snelgar, of Oakland, New Zealand.

Brant’s toss fell far short of the individual competition record of 186-7 set by Gary Lackey of Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, in 2000, and the 204 feet thrown by Kail Bowman in 1990 during a since-discontinued team event.

The women’s title this year was won by 29-year old Carmen Barth, of Lincoln. Her heave went 80 feet, 10 inches.
