Elladine Henrietta Berryman

Elladine Henrietta Berryman, 88, of Cozad passed away Oct. 20, 2017, at Cozad Hospital.

Elladine was born on Sept. 17, 1929, north of Gothenburg to Henry and Marie (Franzen) Boden. Elladine attended grade school in Peru, then lived in Sterling and Auburn before moving back to Gothenburg in 1946. She graduated from Gothenburg High School in 1947.

She was baptized and married at Zion Lutheran Church north of Gothenburg. After graduation, she worked as a telephone operator where she was asked out on a blind date by her soon-to-be best friend, Don Berryman.

On Dec. 9, 1951, Elladine married Don at Zion Lutheran Church. The couple made their home on a farm north of Cozad and to this union a daughter, Marcia Marie, was born.

Elladine enjoyed her years as a Northwestern Bell telephone operator and later as a farmer and rancher’s wife, where together they worked hard raising corn, alfalfa, cattle and hogs.

Elladine loved to be busy and enjoyed her clubs, some of which were garden club and several bridge clubs. She was a 10-year Sunday school teacher and 10-year treasurer for women of the church for American Lutheran. She spent a lot of time in the hayfield and working with cattle and hogs. Elladine was always asked to bring her homemade pies, especially her apple pie.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Marie Boden; husband of 54 years, Don; brother and sister-in-law, Edgar and Lellus Boden; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Cecil and Marjorie McConnell; and brother-in-law, Keith Berryman.

Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Marcia of Cozad; grandchildren, Kortnie (Casey) Shafer, Cody (Leslie Backstrom) Calhoun and Kalyn Calhoun; and great-grandson, Braxton Litz.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 25, at the American Lutheran Church with Kathy Gundell, PMA, officiating. Burial will follow at Cozad Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1-8 p.m., with the family present from 6-8 p.m., today, Oct. 24, at Berryman Funeral Home, Cozad, which is in charge of arrangements.
