Claude Gail Zimmerman, age 85, of North Platte, NE, died at Great Plains Health on Thursday, November 23, 2017. Claude was born July 20, 1932, to Frank Joe and Clydie Isabelle (Cook) Zimmerman in Carneiro, KS and grew up in Brookville, KS. Claude graduated from Brookville High School in 1950 then worked for the C.K. Ranches.
On October 28, 1951, Claude was united in marriage to Berneice Mae Walker in Brookville where they lived for a while. They eventually moved to Salina, KS where Claude was employed by Pittsburgh Plate Glass. In 1964 he transferred with the company to North Platte and later went to work for Larry’s Glass. By 1973 he started working for Schultz Construction and stayed with them until retiring 42 years later.
Claude enjoyed watching and discussing Husker football. He also liked camping, fishing and wood working, but especially loved working with his hands and building things with his grandkids. When his kids were younger he coached Little League Baseball and as he got older, Claude coached and played men’s softball. Claude was a loving husband, father and grandfather. His favorite place was simply being with his family. He will be greatly missed.
Claude is survived by his wife, Berneice, of North Platte; sons, Larry (Connie) Zimmerman, of Seguin, TX, and Wes (Marina) Zimmerman, of Lake Charles, LA; daughter, Vicky (Richard) Powell, of North Platte; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sisters, Barbara Morton, of Canton, KS, and Beverly Craig, of Moundridge, KS; as well as several nieces, nephews and other family.
He was preceded in death by his son, Ronald; his parents, Frank and Clydie; and brother, James Zimmerman.
Cremation was chosen. Memorial service will be at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, November 29, 2017, at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore. Inurnment will follow in Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens. The memorial book may be signed online at odeanchapel.com or from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesday at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore, which is in charge of arrangements.
