Clinton Ross Shoemaker, of North Platte, NE, passed away at Great Plains Health on Saturday, November 25, 2017, at the age of 78.
Ross was born February 11, 1939, at Madison, South Dakota to Clinton and Dorothy Shoemaker. The family lived in Omaha, Nebraska before moving to North Platte in 1949. Ross graduated from North Platte High School in ’57 then attended Chadron State College for two years. He later went to work for his father in Lexington, Nebraska at the Parkway Truck Stop then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1960.
Following his discharge in ’64, Ross returned to North Platte where he was employed by Western Electric and eventually Municipal Light and Water. He also owned a Texaco service station and R & K Refrigeration. Ross later retired from the City of North Platte in 1999.
On July 10, 1971, Ross was united in marriage to Mary Sue (Held) Trew and the couple lived in North Platte. After retiring they enjoyed traveling as well as working and playing at their ranch, north of Thedford.
Ross was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Elks Lodge #985 and P.R. Halligan Post #163 American Legion. Ross and Mary Sue enjoyed square dancing and were members of the Camp and Dancers Square Dance Club.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Sue, of North Platte; stepdaughter, Vickie Heath, of Colorado Springs, CO; as well as other family, friends and his special 4-legged friends.
Ross was preceded in death by his parents, Clinton and Dorothy; and stepson, Terry Trew.
Funeral Service will be 11 a.m. on Monday, December 4, 2017, at the First United Methodist Church. Burial with military honors will follow in Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 1 to 6 p.m. on Sunday at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore, which is in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be shared at odeanchapel.com.
