NPCC Knights basketball preps for Region IX weekend road trip

North Platte – The North Platte Community College Knights basketball team will travel this weekend to play a couple of key Region IX South Sub-Region games against Trinidad State Junior College and Laramie County Community College.

The Knights are currently in fourth place in the South Sub-Region with a 4-3 record. Western Nebraska Community College currently leads with a 7-1 sub-region record, followed by Otero Junior College at 6-2.

The Knights Friday night opponent is the Trinidad State Junior College Trojans, who have a 15-5 overall record and third in the South Sub-Region at 5-3.

The Trojans have three players averaging in double figures led by freshman Trevell Cunningham at 13 points per game. Sophomores Tykeem Anderson and Job Alexander are the other two at 12.4 ppg and 11 ppg respectively. Jesus Martinez leads the Trojans in rebounding at 5.1 rebounds per game.

The Knights defeated the Trojans on December 2, 72-67.

On Saturday, the Knights travel to Cheyenne, Wyo., to play the Laramie County Community College Golden Eagles.

The Golden Eagles, who defeated the Knights in North Platte on December 1, 74-58, are 12-11 on the season and 5-4 in the South Sub-Region, which is currently fifth place.

The Golden Eagles have four players averaging in double figures led by the top two scorers in Region IX South Sub-Region in Landon Taiaferro at 22.7 ppg and Elijah Oliver at 20 ppg. Da’hon Wyche is averaging 21.6 ppg but has only played in seven games and does not qualify for the Region IX leaders. The fourth Golden Eagle to average in double figures is Zaire Mateen at 18.2 ppg. Solomon Iluyomade leads the Golden Eagles in rebounding at 7.3 rpg.

The Knights are 8-7 on the season overall. Godfrey Rolle leads the Knights in scoring at 16.9 ppg, followed by Trajan Harris at 13.6 ppg. Buom Dubuol leads the Knights in rebounding at 5.7 rpg.

Tip-off against Trinidad will be at 8 pm and against Laramie County will be at 5 pm. Both times are CST.
