Carrol Roy “Red” Hiatt, Jr., age 59 of North Platte, died February 18, 2018 at Good Samaritan Medical Center in Kearney. Carrol was born on February 25, 1958 to Carrol Sr. and Joan (Johnston) Hiatt in North Platte where he grew up. He loved anything with wheels, building his first 56 Ford pick-up at the tender age of 14, and customizing many vehicles and Harleys. He graduated from North Platte High School in 1979, took welding, upholstery, and wood working classes at Mid-Plains Community College. He worked for Carrol Sr. as a mechanic, Hinky Dinky, Safeway Foods, and Gerald Gentleman Power Plant in Sutherland. Carrol also hired out on the UPPR in 1997. He built his own tow trucks and operated Carrol’s Towing. He did not have idle hands, and up until his death was working on a customized “49” Mercury along with a “71” Cuda Convertible. On October 24, 1979, he married the love of his life, Joann K. Shirley in North Platte. Carrol was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, and was baptized on October 1993. Red’s favorite verses in the bible were Rev 21:3,4 and Romans 7:25 for the ransom of Jesus. He knew by meditating appreciatively on it, the ransom touches our hearts, drawing us ever closer to God. Carrol had many friends he will miss and had an infectious smile.
Survivors include his parents, Carrol R. Sr. and Joan Hiatt, wife of 39 years, JoAnn K. Hiatt, son, Matthew, granddaughter, Harper Jane Powers, all of North Platte, and all his furry four legged friends.
