ON THE WEB: Protecting your “Smartphone”..

They’re called smartphones. But some of us
aren’t as smart as we should be when it comes to safeguarding them.
And even as the FCC and cellular carriers are teaming up to keep
stolen phones from being sold and reused, the FCC is offering
suggestions to help make sure the phones don’t get stolen to begin
with. Among them:
Never leave a phone unattended in a public place.

– Write down the make and model of your phone, as well as the
serial number and unique ID number, in case it’s stolen.

– Make sure your phone is protected with a password.

– Consider displaying contact information on the screen that
shows up when a phone is idle and locked. That way, someone finding
a lost phone can reach its owner.
