Peggy Joann McNeel

Peggy Joann McNeel, 83, of Lincoln, NE, formerly of Hershey, NE, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, May 29, 2018, in Ogallala, NE.

Peggy was born June 27, 1934, to Mollie Mae Bonta in Cherokee, AL, and they later moved to Nebraska where Peggy grew up in Hershey and graduated from Hershey High School in 1953. She went on to work at the Sutherland Nursing Home.

On November 7, 1954, Peggy married the love of her life, Vernon Austin McNeel, in Sutherland, where they made their home and raised two daughters, Ada Mae and Kay. Peggy was a strong Christian who attended the Velmont Kingdom Hall in Lincoln. Peggy cherished her daughters and grandkids and was a loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandma and great-grandma. She has earned her wings and can now fly high like a butterfly.

Along with her beloved husband, Vernon, Peggy was preceded in death by her mother.

Survivors include her daughters, Ada (Terry) Hopken, of Ogallala and Kay McNeel, of Scottsdale, AZ; four granddaughters, LeDonna Spongberg and Gena Roth, of Scottsdale, AZ, Michelle Hopken, of Kearney and JoAnna and (Dr. Richard) Markiewicz, of North Platte; nine great- grandchildren, Blake, Gianna, Mikilos, Sienna, Savannah, Colin, Alexander, Rowan and Harper; brother, Frank (Joan) Bonta, of North Platte; brother-in-law, Russell McNeel, of Yuma, AZ; along with many other relatives and her cherished dear friends.

Visitation will be 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore, which is in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may also be shared at odeanchapel.com.
