Crash kills Lincoln woman, critically injures her daughter

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — A Lincoln woman has died and her teenage daughter is critically injured after their vehicle crashed into a tree in north Lincoln.

A Lancaster County Sheriff’s deputy found the 2005 Mitsubishi Outlander in a ditch around 1 a.m. Sunday. Authorities say 38-year-old Julie Schmieding died in the crash and 15-year-old Tylea Schmieding was injured.

Investigators aren’t sure why Schmieding’s vehicle veered off the road and struck an electrical box and smashing into the tree.

Tylea Schmieding is a sophomore at North Star High School.
