Leonard S. Harper

Leonard S. Harper, age 86 of North Platte, passed away March 9, 2019 at Linden Court with his family by his side.  Leonard graduated from North Platte High School in 1950 and later was united in marriage to Luaine Page on August 24, 1952.

He hired on the U.P.R.R. and worked at the freight house and later was promoted to engineer on the 3rd District until his retirement. Leonard enjoyed fishing at their cabin at Mill Isle on Lake Maloney, gardening, and singing with various groups, including the Cowboy Capital Club and the Living Christmas Tree. He also was involved in Boy Scouts for many years and delivered Meals-on-Wheels for the Senior Center. Leonard was a man of faith and was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church and later the Bethel Church.

His family includes his children; Randall (Annie) S. Harper, Virginia Harper, Carol (Scott) Aldrich, Diane Harper, Vince (Dianne) Harper, Kent (Lindy) Harper, and Scott (Kim) Harper, brother; Robert C. Harper, 20 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Luaine, daughter, Sherrie Harper, and brothers, Ed, Christopher, and Alan. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m Saturday, March 23, 2019 at Carpenter Memorial Chapel. Burial will be at the Gaslin Cemetery south of Brady. Visitation will be Friday, March 22 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
