A ninth-inning rally fell short as the Colorado Rockies fell to the San Francisco Giants 3-2 in the first game of a brief two-game series in San Francisco. The Rockies wasted a brilliant start from Christian Friedrich, who struck out 10 batters in seven innings in his second big league outing. San Francisco scored twice off the Rockies bullpen in the bottom of the eighth inning to break a 1-1 tie, but the Rockies wouldn’t go quietly. Three walks and an error brought in a run and loaded the bases in the ninth, but Chris Nelson grounded out to end the game. Nelson was batting for Troy Tulowitzki, who had to leave the game in the seventh inning after getting hit in the left leg with a foul ball while standing in the dugout. X-rays were negative, but Tulo is expected to miss a few games. The Rockies face the Giants again tonight. ESPN Radio 1410 has the action, with the pregame show at 8:30 and first pitch at 9:15.
