In another old-fashioned Coors Field slugfest, the Colorado Rockies came up short in a 10-8 loss to the Los Angeles Angels on Sunday afternoon. Rockies starting pitcher Christian Friedrich was shelled, putting his team in a 6-1 hole after an inning and a half and allowing a total of nine runs in his four innings of work. The Rockies tied the game in their half of the second on a three-run home run by Tyler Colvin and a two-run jack from Carlos Gonzalez. But a three-run homer by Mark Trumbo in the fourth gave the Angels the lead back for good. Marco Scutaro’s RBI single in the ninth inning helped the Rockies get the tying run to the plate, but the rally died soon after. The Rockies have now lost five straight games and are 0-6 in interleague play. They are off tonight before welcoming the Oakland A’s to town for a three-game set starting Tuesday night.
