Nebraska man receives 30 days in jail for vehicle homicide

PLATTSMOUTH, Neb. (AP) — A Nebraska City man has been sentenced to 30 days in jail and placed on two years of probation for a deadly crash near Union in southeast Nebraska.

The local media says 65-year-old Norbert Esser was sentenced on a charge of motor vehicle homicide on Monday in Cass County Court in Plattsmouth. He was also fined $1,000. Esser pleaded no contest.

Esser was charged in the death of 51-year-old Lonnie Houchin, of Lincoln. He died when Esser’s pickup hit his motorcycle in June 2011.

Authorities say Esser lost control of his truck and crossed into the oncoming lanes. He hit a car before he hit Houchin’s motorcycle.
