It’s a script the Colorado Rockies have followed far too many times. A promising offensive start and a big early lead went to waste thanks to horrendous starting pitching in an 8-5 loss to the Oakland A’s at Coors Field. Tyler Colvin’s leadoff home run sparked a four-run first inning for the Rockies, but their lead disappeared in a hurry when Jeremy Guthrie allowed six runs in the third inning and one more in the fifth. Guthrie’s already abysmal ERA soared to 6.91, and he allowed three more home runs to bring his National League-leading total in that category to 15. Todd Helton’s solo blast in the fifth inning was the only offense the Rockies could muster after their first-inning outburst. The loss is the Rockies’ sixth in a row. They’ll try and snap it against the A’s tonight, in a game you can hear on ESPN Radio 1410, with pregame coverage at 7:05 and first pitch at 7:40.
