NORTH PLATTE Neb-The pre Fourth of July weekend brought a few minor blazes endangering few homes, and putting some dry grass and trees up in smoke
Sunday about 1PM a grass fire threatened two houses and an out building. The fire lit 80 acres of trees and 20 acres of grassland.
Fire fighters put out the flames before any structural damage occurred. North Platte Firefighters received aid from Hershey, Wallace, and Sutherland Fire Departments. The Nebraska Department of Roads and local land owners also helped crews extinguish the flames.
Cause of the fire is undetermined.
Another fire burning weed stubble occurred near Highway 83 and Kaneb Road at about 8:00PM taking crews 30 minutes to put out.
“We want to caution everyone to take caution” says Assistant Fire Chief Dennis Thompson of North Platte Fire Department. “Have water close by when lighting fireworks, don’t light them near dry grass or trees, just use common sense and be as safe as we can with this stuff”
