BROKEN BOW, Neb. (AP) — A feedlot near Broken Bow has agreed to pay a $145,000 fine for allowing water tainted with cattle manure to flow into a nearby creek.

The Environmental Protection Agency said Tuesday that Adams Land and Cattle Company didn’t have enough storage capacity to prevent wastewater from flowing into a tributary of Mud Creek. EPA officials estimate that large rain events would have caused the feedlot’s wastewater to flow into the creek on at least 13 occasions between 2007 and 2010.

The feedlot had about 83,000 cattle when the problem was discovered during a December 2010 inspection. The EPA says Adams Land and Cattle is now in compliance with Clean Water Act rules.
