Huskers Self-Impose Two Years Probation For Violations

The University of Nebraska athletic department has placed itself on a two-year probationary period after self reporting violations pertaining to extra benefits to the NCAA. Nebraska revealed that it had spent nearly $28,000 dollars over the past four years on textbooks for athletes in 19 sports. The textbooks bought were recommended for the course. The NCAA allows schools to issue book scholarships for required course textbooks and not for recommended textbooks. Nebraska acknowledged the violation in a report issued to the NCAA yesterday. The program claims there was no intentional wrongdoing on their part and that the money spent per athlete on the textbooks has been repaid in the form of a charitable donation. The NCAA now has the option to rule on the violations and could potentially add to the self-imposed punishment.
