MIAMI BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Denver Broncos defensive end Elvis Dumervil has been charged with aggravated assault with a firearm in Florida. The 28-year-old is facing the third-degree felony charge in Miami-Dade County. Det. Vivian Hernandez says Dumervil and another man were arrested Saturday in Miami Beach. No further details were immediately available. A spokesman for the Denver Broncos said that the team is aware of the matter and continuing to gather facts. He said they will review the details as the legal process moves forward. Dumervil had 9.5 sacks last year in his return from missing the entire 2010 season due to injury. In 2009, Dumervil led the NFL with 17 sacks. Dumervil’s attorney, Harvey Steinberg, said that no assault took place and he expects authorities to clear his client after they conclude their investigation.
