OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Omaha authorities say they collected 47 firearms, 900 pounds of ammunition and 800 pounds of fireworks during a weekend amnesty event.
The Omaha Police Department reports that people also turned in two grenades, two sawed-off shotguns and a Soviet-made semi-automatic rifle, along with numerous explosive devices.
The amnesty event was hosted by the police department’s bomb and firearms squads, with help from the Omaha and Ralston fire departments.
The event took place at an Omaha-area park and a Christian worship center. Police say they counted 250 vehicles with residents that came to turn in weapons or fireworks.
