LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Former Nebraska Gov. Norbert “Nobby” Tiemann was remembered Saturday for his humor, lack of inhibition and willingness to make politically unpopular decisions.

Dozens of family members, friends and political allies gathered at a Lincoln church to memorialize Tiemann’s life. Tiemann died last month in his Dallas home, after battling heart problems. He was 87.
Friends recalled how the one-term governor once got in trouble with constituents when he quipped that he had never met a happy farmer.
They also recalled his policy achievements during his one term in office, from 1967 to 1971. Nebraska approved a minimum wage during his tenure, state aid for schools, and collective bargaining for public employees. The University of Nebraska at Omaha was also created under his watch.
