Catherine Mildred “Midge” Hoffman


Catherine Mildred “Midge” Hoffman, age 87, of North Platte, passed away July 17/2012.
Midge was born January 19, 1925 in Bucktail, Nebraska to Harry and Florence Heldt Cullinan. She grew up in the Arthur County area graduating from Arthur County High School with the class of 1941 and graduated from Kearney State Teacher’s College. Midge taught school for a time before she married Lt. Clinton Davis in 1945. To this union a daughter, Terry was born. Lt. Davis was killed in a flight training accident while in the service in 1947. Following Lt. Davis’ death she taught school for many years and then became a school secretary in Grant, NE.
She married Orville Hoffman, made their home in Grant, and the couple had three children, Cindy, Kelly and Joel. Midge moved to North Platte in 1968.
Besides teaching, Midge also worked at Joe’s Supper Club, the Lincoln County Extension Office where she coordinated the 4-H program and as a Grant Writer for the Job Training Program for the State of Nebraska until she retired in 1991. For several years following retirement she worked at the North Platte Answering Service.
She was active in the Eagles, Platter Painters and Legion Auxiliary where she organized Poppy Day and was a Gold Star Wife. She volunteered for RSVP and was a member of the First Christian Church Quilting Club. Midge enjoyed her family, and was very loving to her children, grandchildren, family and friends.
Survivors include her children, Terry (Jim) Witt, Cindy (Jackie Nolan) Hoffman all of North Platte, Kelly Hoffman of Aurora, CO and Joel Hoffman of Seattle, WA; special friend and honorary son, Larry Meadows of Seattle, WA; grandchildren, Sean (Deb) Hoover, Tanya (Michael) Hollis, Adam Hoover, Kelly Hoffman II, Justin Dean and Randee Hoffman; great-grandchildren, Allison, Joshua, Aaron, Jaden, Jeremiah and Boston; siblings, Dorothy Pueppka of North Platte, Helen “Honey” Dammann of McQueeny, TX, Bob (Louise) Cullinan of Paxton, NE and Joe Cullinan of Bucktail, NE; sister-in-law, Twylia Cullinan of Authur; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; infant brother, Harry; brother, Marvin; and a sister, Mary Ann Glinn.

Services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 23, 2012 at the 1st Christian Church with the Reverend Tim Adams officiating. A reception will be held at the church immediately following the service.
Private inurnment will be in the Paxton Cemetery.
Visitation will be noon until 9:00 pm today, 9:00 am until 9:00 p.m. Friday and from noon until 6:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home.
