Orvin Duane “O.D.” Golden


Orvin Duane “O.D.” Golden, 78, a long-time resident of North Platte, died Nov. 21, 2011, at his home in Zimmerman, Minn., surrounded by his family.
Duane was born Oct. 26, 1933, to Orvin and Rea (Hagemeister) Golden in Sidney.
Duane served in the Marines on the USS St. Paul from 1954-57. He married Marlene Larson on June 27, 1957. They lived in Sidney and North Platte.
He is survived by his wife; three children; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Duane worked for the Union Pacific Railroad for 42 years. He loved to hunt and fish. He also enjoyed cooking, gardening, oil painting and woodworking. He was an avid history buff. O. D. was a great storyteller and he enjoyed his life and family.
Duane and his wife moved to Minnesota in 2002. He shared nine full years of life in a place that he loved.
In honoring Duane’s wishes, his family will have a memorial service at 1 p.m. on July 28 in Zimmerman, Minn., at the Struthers’ family home.
Friends and family are encouraged to attend and bring or send pictures and/or written memories to be shared at the service. These will be placed in a family memorial book. Please send them to Teri Struther at 8600 261st Ave. NW, Zimmerman MN 55398.
