Scottsbluff Chief sued by woman involved in sex affair

SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. (AP) — The Scottsbluff chief has acknowledged having sex with a woman who has since sued him and the city in federal court.

Chief Alex Moreno acknowledged the affair in his response to an amended complaint filed by Tamara Villanueva. She alleges that he harassed her and violated her rights after their sex affair ended.

The lawsuit says the chief took advantage of Villanueva’s emotional state after she sought police help with a domestic situation. She says the police department ignored her reports.

Court documents say Villanueva has denied those allegations.

She is seeking unspecified damages for emotional distress and humiliation, loss of earnings and reputation. A trial is scheduled to begin in June next year.

Moreno has been chief since January 2005.
