Vernon G. Smith


Vernon G. Smith, 92, of Lincoln, passed away on Aug. 20, 2012, in Lincoln.
He was born on July 4, 1920, in Sioux City, Iowa, to Vernon and Sarah (Money) Smith. He worked in the State of Nebraska Social Services Department including the communities of North Platte and Grand Island. He was a member of Lincoln Berean Church.
Vernon is survived by his wife, Bonita “Bonnie,” of Lincoln; children, Rosalee Fricke, of Lincoln, Sharon (Richard) Harvey, of North Platte, Brent (Robin) Smith, of Firth, and Rebecca (Lowell) Shafe, of Tucson, Ariz.; nine grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; sister, Marjorie Money, of Horseheads, N.Y.; sister-in-law, Marjory Smith, of Creston; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; infant twin brothers, Dayton and Donald; and brother, Wayne; daughter-in-law, Linda Smith; son-in-law, Larry Fricke; and sister, Dorothy Spaulding.

Services will be at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 24, at Wyuka Cemetery. Family and friends may meet at the 36th and “O” St. entrance. Memorial services will follow at 10:30 a.m. on Friday at Lincoln Berean Church, 6400 S. 70th St., Lincoln. Butherus, Maser and Love Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
