Hannah Marie Hampton


Hannah Marie Hampton, 94, of North Platte, formerly of Hershey, NE died Tuesday, August 21, 2012, at Linden Court in North Platte.

Hannah was born December 24, 1917, at Lincoln, NE to Henry and Margaret Benner Stumpf. At a young age, the family moved to homestead in Bosler, WY. During her school years the family moved to rural Madrid, NE where Hannah lived until she graduated with the class of 1936.

Following graduation, Hannah went to work in North Platte where she later met Robert ‘Bob’ Daniel Hampton. They were married July 31, 1939, at North Platte and made their home in Sutherland, NE. In 1951 they moved to their farm north of Hershey. Hannah and Bob were blessed with three daughters, Teressa, Anna and Patricia, and celebrated 50 years of marriage.

Hannah was active in the Hershey United Methodist Church where she served as Sunday School teacher, Superintendent and UMW President. She was also active in the PTA, Peace Officers Wives and O’Fallon’s Extension.

Hannah was a devoted wife, mother and grandma. She was a wonderful cook who will fondly be remembered for her extraordinary pies, breads, cakes, cookies and noodles. She was an excellent seamstress, making beautiful quilts, tablecloths and linens. Her hands were always busy and her heart full of love which she gave freely and generously.

Hannah is survived by her daughters, Teressa (George) Marquardt, of Elwood, NE, Ann (Jean) Schultz, of Albuquerque, NM and Patricia (Kenneth) Walz, of Hershey, NE; five grandchildren, Steven Walz, Alicia (Lucas) Odean, Jennifer Schultz (Robert Mizell), George Marquardt and Johan (Christina) Marquardt; five great-grandchildren, Emma, Brady and Alise Odean and James and Anna Marquardt; and other family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; her parents, Henry and Margaret Stumpf; a brother, Henry Stumpf; and a sister, Helen Johnson.

As per Hannah’s wishes, cremation was chosen and there will be no visitation. A memorial service will be 1:30 p.m. Friday, August 24, 2012, at the Hershey United Methodist Church. The memorial book may be signed at odeanchapel.com or prior to services at the church. Memorials are suggested to the Hershey United Methodist Church. Odean Colonial Chapel At C & Sycamore is in charge of arrangements.
