NORTH PLATTE, Neb.-Speaker, Cherrie Beam-Clarke, returns to the North Platte Public Library on Thursday, August 30th to present the sequel to her June program, “Promise in a New Land: Migrating and Settling in Nebraska.” “The Courage to Continue” will be presented at 12:00 PM on Thursday August 30th. The Friends of the Library group and the Nebraska Humanities Council made it possible to bring this historic program to North Platte as part of the library’s centennial year celebration. The Brown Bag Luncheon program begins at 12:00 PM and should last about one hour. Attendees may bring their lunches. Water and tea will be provided. Seating is limited so seat reservations can be made by calling the library at 535-8036 by Wednesday, August 29th.

Beam-Clarke, as “Mariah,” is a native Nebraska storyteller with the Nebraska Humanities Council. Twelve sets of family homesteaded in Nebraska. Cherrie has been making history come alive for 30 yrs., giving programs to over 92,000 children and adults.

In this sequel, Mariah Monahan, in period attire and with Irish brogue, depicts life on the Nebraska prairie, 1870 to 1885. Based on historical fact the story continues in a dramatic presentation. Selling the eastern Nebraska homestead, they begin again as cattlemen in the treeless Sandhills of western Nebraska. Relive trials of building the sod house, crying for rain, battling rattlesnakes and the never-ending wind. Delight with the 4th of July, Christmas and American pride. This program is appropriate for 3rd grade through adult.
