FOOTBALL: Week Zero Roundup

New season, new seniors, same old St. Patrick’s Irish. A devastating defensive performance led the Irish to a 28-0 victory over Kimball in their season opener. St. Pat’s eased to the win with several new faces getting their first starting opportunities.

This round belongs to the Wildcats. Maxwell defeated Brady 28-16 in their rivalry matchup in Maxwell. That makes it two straight wins for the Wildcats and two out of three since the rivalry was renewed after a brief hiatus.

The Wallace Wildcats did not kindly welcome South Platte back to eight-man football. It was a total rout in Wallace as the Wildcats hammered the visitors 68-6. For one night at least, Wallace’s offense lived up to it’s high-powered potential and made for a fun night for the home crowd.

The Swedes jumped out in front early and held on late for a 17-12 victory at Ogallala. That makes it two straight wins for the Swedes over the Indians, following their quadruple-OT win in the playoffs last year. Though Gothenburg doesn’t have much returning experience this year, their new players appear to have settled in nicely.
