Huskers Take First Three Matches of 2012

The fourth-ranked Husker volleyball team made it a clean sweep of their opening weekend with a three-set victory over Notre Dame at the CenturyLink Center in Omaha on Sunday. The Huskers won a pair of matches at the NU Coliseum to start their season, sweeping St. Louis in three sets on Friday and then holding on for a thrilling five-set win over top-ranked defending national champion UCLA on Saturday. Sunday, in front of a crowd of over 7,000 in Omaha, they had another easy victory, beating the Irish 25-19, 25-21, and 25-13. Gina Mancuso’s 15 kills led the way for the Huskers on the day. Hannah Werth had 11 kills and a .500 hitting percentage with 13 digs, and Morgan Broekhuis added nine kills. The Huskers are in California this Saturday, taking on Colgate and UC-Irvine.
