The Colorado Rockies blew early leads in losing both ends of a doubleheader to the Philadelphia Phillies yesterday. In the opener, the Rockies edged out to a 2-0 lead in the second inning, but the offense would do no further damage and the Phillies won 3-2 on a walk-off bloop single by John Mayberry Jr. in the ninth. The nightcap saw the Rockies take a 4-1 lead in the third inning, with Chris Nelson’s three-run homer capping the four-run frame. But again, one inning of offense would be all the Rockies would get. The Phillies scored twice in the sixth, seventh, and eighth innings, helped by five Rockies errors, and won the game 7-4. The Rockies will hope to rebound from their sweep in Philadelphia as they return home to open a series against San Francisco tonight.
