The Colorado Rockies lost their fifth straight game last night, falling 7-1 to the San Francisco Giants. Giants starter Matt Cain pitched eight strong innings, striking out eight and cooling off the Rockies bats. Pablo Sandoval hit a three-run home run in the first inning off Rockies starter Tyler Chatwood, and the Giants tacked on three more runs in the sixth inning to blow the game open. The Rockies scored once on a DJ LeMahieu in the fifth and threatened for more, but left the bases loaded when Carlos Gonzalez grounded out to end the frame. Chris Nelson and Charlie Blackmon had two hits apiece, the only four hits for the Rockies on the night. The Rockies hope to avoid the sweep this afternoon as they conclude their four-game series against the Giants.
