Huskers Host Valpo in Cipriano Classic Opener

The Husker men’s basketball team opens the inaugural Joe Cipriano Nebraska Classic tonight as they play host to Valparasio. The event honors the contributions of Cipriano, who coached the Husker program from 1963 until his death in 1980 and won three Big Eight Coach of the Year honors. New Husker coach Tim Miles was victorious in his debut on Sunday, an eleven-point triumph over Southern. Brando Ubel had a career high 21 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Husker cause on opening night. Tonight Nebraska take on a Valparasio team that is off to a 2-0 start and is coming off a Horizon League regular-season championship last year. The Crusaders are led by the reigning Horizon League player of the year Ryan Broekhoff. Tipoff is set for 8:06 PM. The game will be televised on the Big Ten Network.
