Judge Dismisses Case- 18 YO Accused Of Stabbing Girl In Lincoln

A judge has dismissed a case that had been filed against an 18-year-old accused of stabbing a 5-year-old girl in Lincoln.

A judge ruled earlier this month that Paris Wells wasn’t competent to stand trial on charges of assault and use of a weapon. Police say Wells had used a kitchen knife to stab the girl on Oct. 15 last year.

The Lincoln Journal Star reports that Wells suffers from a traumatic brain injury. He’d been sent to the state psychiatric hospital in Lincoln for treatment aimed at making him mentally competent for trial, but the treatment failed.

Prosecutors subsequently asked a judge to dismiss the case, which Judge Timothy Phillips did Tuesday.

Prosecutors also have petitioned for the civil commitment of Wells as a mentally ill dangerous person.
