Marvin Smith, 76, died December 28, 2012 in North Platte. He was born July 31, 1936 in Franklin, Nebraska to Milo and Viola Smith.
At the age of 16, Marvin went to work as a ranch hand for Chas Long at the Long Ranch northwest of North Platte. He worked for three generations of the Long family. One of his most out-of-the-ordinary jobs as a ranch hand was helping prepare for the visit of President Ronald Reagan to the Long Ranch in 1987. Marvin was a kind and gentle man who loved the ranch, the livestock and the Nebraska Cornhuskers.
Over the years the Long family became Marvin’s extended family.
Survivors include Margaret Long, Michaelene Long and Cathy Long all of North Platte; Tom Long of Gothenburg and Patrick Long of Elko, NV.

Cremation was chosen and a private memorial services will be at a later date at the Long Ranch. Adams & Swanson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
