Authorities have released the name of a western Nebraska teenager who was fatally injured when the vehicle she was driving was hit by a train at a crossing.
The 17-year-old was identified as Mikal Orozco, of Gering.
Authorities say the accident happened around 1:30 a.m. Sunday, just east of Gering in the Nebraska Panhandle.
Scotts Bluff County Sheriff’s Lt. Rick Spencer says the girl drove around the crossing arms blocking the road just before the accident happened.
An eastbound train struck the passenger side of her vehicle. Spencer says Orozco died later at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff.
