Til Death Do Us Part: Stats Show Nebraskans Waiting on Marriage

cupidLove may be in the Nebraska air on Valentine’s Day, but wedded bliss, not so much.

The latest state statistics suggest Nebraskans are waiting to get married, if at all.

The Associated Press reports that 4.9 percent of all 2011 marriages Nebraska involved a teenage bride or groom. The number was 13.2 percent just 25 years ago.  And more than half of all Nebraska marriages in 2011 involved a bride or groom who was at least 30 years old. Twenty-five years ago the figure was 36.1 percent.

The state marriage rate peaked in 1970 at 10.6 marriages per 1,000 people annually. In 2011 the rate had dropped to 6.6 marriages per 1,000 people.
