(UPDATED) North Platte Attorney Announces Intent to Run for State Senate

jones-law-updateA North Platte Attorney has announced his intention to run for State Senate.

Russ Jones announced Friday morning that he will vie to be the next Senator from the State’s 42nd District.

The post will be vacated by Tom Hanson who is not eligible for re-election due to term limits.

Mr. Jones is not without political experience.  He served as an intern at the office of former Nebraska Senator John DeCamp in 1985, then worked for current Nebraska Governor Dave Heineman in 1988.  At the time, Heineman was serving as Chief of Staff for Congressman Hal Daub.

Jones graduated from the University of Southern California with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology in 1989 and obtained his Juris Doctorate in 1992 from the University of Nebraska College of Law.

He has practiced law in North Platte since 1994, and in 2000, he opened Jones Law Office.

He also currently the president of the Nebraska Criminal Defense Attorney’s Association.

According to the Nebraska Secretary of State’s website, candidates can’t officially file until December 1.

At this point, no one else has announced their intention to run for the office.
