Scottsbluff Attorney Consider Running for Office in Nebraska, Again

A former Democratic candidate for governor is considering another run for office in Nebraska.

Scottsbluff attorney Mike Meister said Wednesday that he has formed an exploratory committee as he decides which office to seek.

Meister says he is pondering a run for governor, the Legislature, or the U.S. Senate seat held by Republican Mike Johanns. None of the three seats will have an incumbent in the 2014 race.

Meister was the Democratic Party’s nominee in the 2010 governor’s race, but he lost to Republican Gov. Dave Heineman. Meister joined the race at a disadvantage in late July 2010, with almost no campaign money and fewer than 100 days to go before the general election. He accepted his party’s nomination after the previous nominee, Mark Lakers, abruptly withdrew from the race.
