Nebraska woman dies after driving car into train path

GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (AP) – A Kearney woman has died after her car collided with a train west of Grand Island. Grand Island police say 76-year-old Lana Lowell didn’t stop Saturday evening at a railroad crossing, drove around the warning gates and into the path of the Union Pacific train. The train crew spotted the car and sounded its horn but couldn’t stop in time to avoid a collision. A police officer was in the area and witnessed the crash.
