Spokeswoman Corinne Geller says 54-year-old pilot Joseph D. Brown IV and his wife, 52-year-old Susan D. Brown, died when a single-engine Cessna 210 crashed in a James City County subdivision. Their dog also died in the crash. There were no other passengers on the plane.
Virginia and Nebraska media outlets identified Joseph Brown as an Air Force major general. They said he was an official at the National Defense University in Washington and formerly was assigned to U.S. Strategic Command at Offutt Air Force Base in Nebraska.
Geller says the crash occurred at 4:53 p.m. Friday near the Williamsburg-Jamestown Airport.
