Joan Smith, 85, of Omaha, formerly of North Platte, passed away May 8, 2013 at the Omaha Nursing Home. She was born Sept. 17, 1927 to Peter and Grace (Beaupre) Lamirande at Cloquet, MN. Joan was united in marriage to Clayton W. Smith on June 9, 1956 at Duluth, MN. They resided in Duluth, Denver, CO and then moved to North Platte in 1970. She is survived by her son, Bruce (Lena) Smith of LaVista, NE; her daughters, Lisa Smith of Jacksonville, FL and Tracey (Stuart) Votaw of North Platte, NE; grandchildren, Danielle, Matthew, Jennifer, Kaitlin, Tami, Christopher, Brian and Sarah; great grandchildren, Victoria, Jasmine, Piper, Paetyn, Theodore, Kyle and Kayden; two sisters, Loretta Brisset and Laura Tangen; a brother, Don (Jeanne) Lamirande and their families; and Del Welch’s children, Roy (Barb) Welch, Zoe Youmans, and Bud (Gladys) Welch and their family. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one brother; and three sisters; and a special friend, Del Welch. Online condolences may be shared at www.carpentermemorial.com. Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at Carpenter Memorial Chapel with the Rev. James Novakowski officiating. Inurnment will be at Ft. McPherson National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. with family receiving friends from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday at Carpenter Memorial Chapel. Cremation will follow the visitation.
