Catherine Virginia “Katie” Johnson, 93, of North Platte, NE, passed away Tuesday, May 21, 2013, at Linden Court in North Platte.

Katie was born February 8, 1920, to Tolliver Posey and Gladys Florence Ervin Black in Daykin, NE. She grew up in the Daykin and Fairbury area and attended school there.

On July 18, 1937, Katie married James Carter Rhoden and to this union three sons were born, James C., Jr., Frank E. and John T. The family later moved to North Platte in 1949. In July 1953, Katie married Carroll O. Johnson at North Platte where they made their home.

Katie was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary #2839. She enjoyed playing cards, knitting and spending time with her grandkids. She also liked to travel, fish and camp.

Survivors include her sons, Frank (Fae) Rhoden, of Sun Tan Valley, AZ and John (Carolyn) Rhoden, of North Platte; eight grandchildren, Joe Rhoden, Mike Rhoden, Chawna Treat, Leah Burke, Maria Vassil, John W. Rhoden, Gina Curtis and Mark Rhoden; 10 great-grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren; a brother, Cecil (Ann) Black, of Redding, CA; many nieces, nephews and other family.

Katie was preceded in death by her husband, Carroll, in 1988; a son, James Rhoden, Jr.; her parents, Gladys and Tolliver Black; two sisters, Joyce Haney and Berniece Wehrli; five brothers, Joe, Warren, Claude, Robert and Ben Black; her granddaughter, Cathy Rhoden; and three great-grandsons, Daniel and Tyler Treat and Joshua Haffner.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 28, 2013, at Odean Colonial Chapel At C & Sycamore with Gary Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Fort McPherson National Cemetery. Visitation will be 1 to 6 p.m. Monday at Odean Colonial Chapel At C & Sycamore. Condolences may also be shared at odeanchapel.com. Memorials are suggested to the Callahan Cancer Center. Odean Colonial Chapel At C & Sycamore is in charge of arrangements.
