The Nebraska athletic season opened this weekend with a pair of women’s soccer matches as the Husker ladies became the first team to compete as a member of the Big Ten Conference. On Friday the Huskers put a scare into third-ranked North Carolina before falling 2-1 in Lincoln. Junior Jordan Jackson scored three minutes into the second half to tie the score at one, and Nebraska had a chance to take the lead late on a penalty kick, but Morgan Marlborough was stopped and the Tar Heels scored with 13 minutes left to win the game. Yesterday afternoon the Huskers drew with Baylor, 1-1. Sophomore Stacy Bartels scored in the 60th minute to equalize after the Bears had scored in the first half. The Huskers seek their first win in their next game, Thursday night at the University of Denver.
