Oregon Man Escapes Serious Injury in Chadron Plane Crash

plane-crash(AP) — An Oregon man suffered minor injuries when he crashed his plane at a northwest Nebraska airport.

The crash occurred a little before 7 a.m. Wednesday at Chadron Municipal Airport.

Chadron Police Chief Tim Lordino says 66-year-old William G. Earl, of Jacksonville, Ore., was attempting to take off when he had a mechanical problem with the cockpit canopy that caused the plane to nose back down onto the runway.

Earl’s plane skidded to a stop just off the main runway, sustaining significant damage.

Earl drove himself to a Chadron hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries.

There were no passengers in the plane.

Federal Aviation Administration officials are investigating the accident.
