
Severe weather rolled through Central and Southwest Nebraska Sunday afternoon, spoiling many a Father’s Day Barbecue.
Large hail and damaging thunderstorm winds prompted Severe Thunderstorm Warnings and even several tornado warnings, including a public reported tornado near Hyannis in Cherry County, and funnel clouds reported by spotters in Dawson, Buffalo and Custer Counties.
A semi-trailer was overturned between Lexington and Overton in Dawson County. The Post has no confirmed report on whether a tornado or straight line winds caused the accident. Wind gusts up to 70 miles per hour were reported in several Counties.
Ping pong and golf ball sized hail was reported in Perkins, Hayes, Grant and Cherry Counties.
Torrential rains also accompanied the storms.
North Platte was once again the dividing point in the line of storms that split as they entered Lincoln County. At one point, warnings were in effect to the north, south, east and west of the city. North Platte received a few sprinkles and some rumbles of thunder.
