(AP) — A series of workshops will offer a sampling of life in Nebraska and the Great Plains when the area was settled 150 years ago.

The free festival at Nebraska Chautauqua in Grand Island is set to run from June 26-30.

Participants will have the opportunity to play pioneer games, learn about Native American storytelling, and try their hands at a harmonica. Each evening, audiences will be able to enjoy local music and theatrical entertainment, followed by portrayals of historical figures from the area.

This year’s theme is “Free Land? 1862 and the Shaping of Modern America.” The events will explore the lasting impact of settlers and Native Americans on the Great Plains.
