Cali Man Pleads Guilty in Nebraska Beef Theft Conspiracy

nebraska-beef(AP) — Authorities say a California man has pleaded guilty in a conspiracy to steal beef products from a Nebraska facility.

Federal prosecutors say Artak Medjbarian of Sherman Oaks, Calif., is scheduled to be sentenced on Oct. 7. The 33-year-old pleaded guilty to conspiring with others to steal $163,000 worth of beef products from a Nebraska Beef facility in Omaha.

Prosecutors say Medjbarian schemed with other people by preparing documents in their effort to imitate legitimate freight haulers. The federal indictment says Medjbarian used the identity of a legitimate trucking company, but freight brokers raised questions about the documents and contacted the company.

He was arrested on Jan. 27 last year when he showed up at Nebraska Beef pretending to have the transport authority from the legitimate company.
