(AP) — A 6-year-old Wichita boy is recovering at a Nebraska rehabilitation hospital after a deadly car-horse crash.
Eddie Caddell was riding the horse with a family friend when a driver crashed into them and fled. After two bystanders ran to their aid, a second vehicle struck. The family friend, 59-year-old Lloyd “Sonny” Ferguson, died. His horse was euthanized. Eddie’s injuries included a broken femur.
Police say the second driver stopped to help. But the driver of the first car remains at large. Authorities are looking for a damaged, silver Mercury Grand Marquis.
In the meantime, Eddie is working to regain his ability to walk and improve his speech. He’ll receive therapy at Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital in Lincoln, Neb., for at least 30 days.
