(AP) — A replica of the Statue of Liberty in Grand Island has been freshened up thanks to local Boy Scouts and others.

The statue at Pier Park originally dedicated in 1950 was looking its age.

The worst damage came from storms in 1980, which broke off the statue’s crown spikes, bent an arm and peppered the artwork with holes.

The local Boy Scouts council and Hall County Historical Society raised $5,000 for repairs.

The statue was artificially aged, except for the torch, to give it an appearance like the actual Statue of Liberty in New York.

The statue was returned to its base July 10 after two weeks of work.

The statue was originally among 200 installed in 39 states, commemorating the scouts’ 40th anniversary.
