(AP) — An effort to recall two Central City school board members has failed.
Merrick County Clerk Marcia Wichman rejected the petitions turned in Tuesday. She says petitioners hadn’t complied with a requirement that each page must state whether those circulating the petitions were volunteers or paid circulators.
The petition effort began in June, two months after the April firing of football coach Darin Garfield. School board meetings since have been filled with people demanding Garfield’s reinstatement.
The petition for recall had cited “lack of responsiveness to concerns raised by public and staff” and “failure to require accountability from administrators.”
